During the Side Event, representatives of affected communities, members of trade unions as well as NGOs engaged with Human Rights defence exposed the difficulty to effectively address the issue of corporate impunity for human rights violations committed by Transnational Corporations (TNCs) around the planet. In fact, through complex legal arrangements, special statutes granted in some countries and other mechanisms, TNCs are able to escape national jurisdictions and prosecution.
Confronted to this situation, organizations and movements representing affected communities exposed concrete elements that strengthen the current challenge brought by the insufficiency of non-judicial mechanisms worldwide, claiming for the elaboration of binding norms and effective judicial mechanism with regard to TNCs and human rights.
